KIES doesn’t work on any pc I have tried! It simply won’t allow my Galaxy S to connect! It tries and tries and never finished the connection! Not Good!!!!
Step 1 make sure that you are plugging the USB sync cable to the rear USB ports if you are using a desktop PC.
Step 2 download and install Samsung Kies software. Make sure it is the full not the Kies Mini. The full software should be about 127MB. If you are still having problems try uninstalling the driver software and then reboot and reinstall.
Agree with Tim, installed Kies on Windows Vista and no joy. Says it’s trying to connect, regardless of whether I mount it as mass storage or using the Kies option.
I really hope there’s an Android app out there that allows management of the Galaxy S as Kies was supposed to do.
When is it coming to India ?
Kies isnt for north america. At least not yet. And im upset that the ram is still only low 300 range. That is EPIC weak. Come on samsung. Dont be lame. Give us our whole ram. I payed 320 after tax for this phone. Dont make me wish i got something else.
Dear TIM, please check your firewall & antivirus settings, disable them for sometime & Kies will connect like a breeze..
I agree i live in the United States and i downloaded the kies and tried to connect my samsung captivate and it shows it on there but tells me to reconnect cause it could not read it amd i tried again and same problem so i really dont know whats going on is this going to get fixed or whats going to happen to us U.S users
ti works fine on every PC i have installed it from Windows 7 64 bit to vista or XP. you need to install the proper version for each OS.
I have used it successfully, but not to download any updates. It is really buggy and I think you have to select “Samsung Kies” from your phones download menu and maybe also enable “usb debugging”. Hope that helps.
Hi,
I upgraded to FroYo two days ago. The problem is that I have to go to the recovery mode manually then everything went fine. Everything was great except we lost the Market in the new update. I do not know how to manage this problem!
Kies is really buggy – took me ages to get it installed and working on both an XP and a Vista machine with multiple uninstalls. Finally got it to work on both systems using version 1.5.3.10093_31
It also allows me to update the phone firmware but ONLY and I must stress ONLY after I had to tweak the registry by adding the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Samsung/FUS
I am now running the latest firmware:
PDA:JM5/PHONE:JM1/CSC:JM3
N.B. Please note that I am a UK user rather than US but this may assist you in your continuing frustration
To Tim M: please enable usb debuging on your phone, after that the kies can connect to your phone
Sorry to barge in but I have a similar problem which you guys might have solved. I would be grateful for some assistance.
I have a Samsung Pixon and the Galaxy S. I would like to transfer the phonebook numbers from the Pixon (larger that SIM card acapacity) to the Galaxy S. I can’t use Samsung PC Studio and Samsung Kies to export as they won’t both recognise the same phones. I mean that the pixon works with PC Studio and Galaxy S works with Kies but Kies won’t recognise my Pixon. How can transfer the phonebook from the one to the other without having to do it by retyping the numbers on the Galaxy S?
First, you need to make sure that the ‘TouchWiz’ homescreeen is active. For some reason KIES don’t play nice with any other homescreens like LauncherPro which is my personal favority.
Second, don’t have any programs running in the background like music or any browsers.
Third, when you plug your phone in, make sure you do not have USB Debugging mode on. It needs to be off. Turn id off by going to Home/Settings/Applications/Development.
Forth, you will need to have ‘Samsung Kies’ selected (on the phone) by going to Home/Settings/Applications/USB settings.
After all this, you should be able to connect right away. I have a Vibrant from T-Mobile, and living in Texas USA – i’m still not able to upgrade to Froyo YET!!!
I spent hours trying to install Kies. It was very frustrating just to get it to install. I finally got it installed but it wouldn’t recognize my Captivate. I then downloaded version 1.5.3.xxxx from Samsung in the UK, and this finally recognizes my phone. However, when I ask it to do a firmware upgrade, it says one is not available. I will try GeorgeP’s suggestion to add the registry key tonight when I go home.
I too had a problem getting Kies installed on both Vista and Windows 7. It took a few installs and uninstalls until it was useable. On the whole a bit of a nightmare. I am in the UK, does this upfrade for the firmware work here? If so, where do I find it? Thanks
I have the samsung vibrant go to settings, then applications, then should say USB settings or somthing of that nature. choose kies for the connection and there shouldn’t be any problems. But i haven’t gotten the 2.2 update yet im in the U.S.
I got and downloaded kies, did the upgrade without trouble, however, I only get to have4 windows open now from my previous 8 allowed? Thats a bit weak. I like the wifi and easy tethering and all, but man, why cut that back? I use my phone for everything and this put a limitation on my productivity!!
